80s' Night Fundraiser
A big thank you to out very own Charlie B and customers at The Wheatsheaf New for a fantastic 80s night - We raised a brilliant £470.00 for Radio Cavell taking our fundraising over the last three months to over £2300 - and rising! Shell suits, rara skirts, patterned tights and very dodgy haircuts were out in force as everyone enjoyed the music of the 80s. Sadly all but one could remember the 80s clearly! A good time was had by all and everyone gave generously.
PAT Volunteer Evening
The Pennine Acute Trust recently held an evening at Chadderton Town Hall to celebrate the work of volunteers. During a fun-filled evening, accompanied by drink and food, we waited expectantly to see who had won the Volunteer of the Year Award. Among the nominations were Cavell's own Carole Royle and Gail Taylor seen here (right to left) with presenter Nick Roddy .
In a close result they narrowly missed the main prize but Carole did win the table award as the longest-serving volunteer.
Carole and Gail can be heard every Friday night on the Cavell Request show.
A Bullseye for Carole
One of our longest serving members, Carole Royle, was presented with a cheque for £360 at the North Chadderton Bowling club on Monday 8th of June. Carole is a regular darts player for her team and it was decided that the funds raised this year would be donated to Radio Cavell. This was a very generous gesture for which we are very grateful.
This brings the funds raised in the last two months to almost £2000!Carole has been volunteering for Radio Cavell for over 30 years; that's not to mention the volunteering she does on the wards at the Royal Oldham as well. We are considering requesting that the name of the hospital is changed to The Royle Oldham.
We have lucky enough to receive grant funding to the tune of £750 from
First Choice Homes Oldham
and the Rotary Club of Saddleworth.
We are extremely grateful for their generosity which will ensure the completion of our second studio. We were put through our paces by both sponsors! The Rotary Club held a Dragons' Den event at the White Hart, Lydgate
whilst First choice Homes Oldham held a rigorous application process through which 17/30 submissions were successful. Onwards and upwards!
